When asked by the police to investigate a new player on the Boston crime scene, Carter finds himself working with two new partners. Both to his surprise and concern, his connection to his new associate Jessica and police liaison Detective Disher grows to a depth he had not expected or experienced in a very long time.
What starts out as simply digging up dirt on an unknown crime boss evolves into a head-to-head battle of intellect and determination. Everton realizes that the man he is up against is far more formidable than he had expected. The mystery man’s threats intensify, his crimes grow bolder, but his identity and ultimate goal remain hidden, leaving Everton feeling increasingly disadvant-aged in the fight. As the case progresses, he realizes that any hope of success, or perhaps survival, will rest heavily on his secret ability and his new friendships.

The thing I liked most about this book is that it's a mystery, and it's action packed, but not "dark" like so many current pieces of pop culture. It is the perfect blend of fun and excitement.

I really liked the main character, Carter Everton. He has this ability to read people (you'll have to read to find out how). At first I thought what a cool "superpower" to have but then as I read more of the book I thought maybe not.

I have really enjoyed the relationships in this novel as well as the struggles our hero has with them. They make Carter relatable and give us a hero who knows he isn’t perfect.
